Bicycle theft
Preventing bicycle theft
Bicycle theft has been on the rise for several years. To combat this scourge, Woluwe-Saint-Pierre encourages you to register your bike with mybike. Once your bike has been registered, the police or Guardiens de la Paix can identify it by placing a sticker on the frame. The sticker has been designed to be difficult to remove.
For greater safety, we recommend that you store your bike indoors at night. If this isn’t possible for you, ask about a space in a bike box.
When you park your bike in the public space, opt for fixed points anchored in the ground (such as hoops) and located in visible and frequented areas.
Always attach at least your frame to the top of the bar and, if possible, any detachable parts too (especially your wheels).
Use a strong, ART-certified padlock. U-shaped or folding padlocks are generally the most recommended. For more information, ask your bike dealer for advice.
Finally, there are various types of insurance available to prevent theft or damage to your bike, so don’t hesitate to ask your bike dealer for advice.
What should you do if your bike is stolen?
- File a complaint with the police, for example via police-on-web.
- If you already have an account on mybike, log in and report the bike as stolen, filling in the circumstances, date and place of the theft.
- Share the report of the bike on Facebook groups and others (e.g. Brussels Stolen Bikes).
- Search online sales sites/flea markets, etc.
- Consult the Brussels depot for recovered bikes.
