  • Questioning right of the municipal councillors

Municipal councillors have the right to question the council of the Mayor and Aldermen regarding to subjects relating to their competences. According to the regulations of internal order of the municipality, the questions have to be presented for the Mayor, the President of the municipal council or his representative. Questions have to be introduced at least 5 days before the session of the Council. They will be inscribed in the agenda of the session (or additional session) of the municipal Council. The questions will then be answered during the session.

  • Questioning right of inhabitants

20 people, registered in the municipality, aged at least 16, can exercise a questioning right against the municipal council.

The questioning has to related to municipal interests and cannot be based purely on personal interests. Questions have to be formulated in French or Dutch.

Are unacceptable: questioning about matters that are dealt with behind closed doors, matters that are already inscribed in the agenda of the session, matters that were subject to questioning in the past 3 months or matters that do not respect human rights or present a racist of xenophobic character.

All questions have to be sent by certified letter to the Mayor or the President of the Council (or his representative). Disposal at the secretary is also possible, at least 5 days before the next reunion of the Council.

The questioning takes place at the beginning of the session.
