Legal affairs and disputes

The Legal Service is charged with the management of the legal affairs that concern the municipality. Firstly, the Legal Service provides information and advice to the council of aldermen and the mayor concerning possible initiation of law suits. Secondly, the Legal Service also keeps track of the suits once they have been initiated. Together with the municipalities attorneys, the Legal Service assists in the legal defence of the municipality and its organs.

In addition, the Legal Service is responsible for the rendering of internal advice to the council, mayor and secretary. This advice covers numerous fields: public law, civil law, tax law etc.

Consequently, the Legal Service does not advice directly to citizens. Citizens who seek legal advice have access to the services organized by the French and Dutch speaking bars. These services are organized twice a month in the rooms of CPAS/OCMW (44 avenue Charles Thielemans): every second and fourth Wednesday of the month, 2.00-3.30 pm. This service is accessible to everyone, regardless nationality or revenue. The first consult is always free of charge.

In case of disputes between neighbours or acquaintances, the municipality offers a free mediation service:
